Eucalyptus Collection: First Cut — 24 Selected

Long time no see! It was interesting to read my older blog posts and try to remember how it was. Since then, I learned a lot, moved states, moved cities, bought a house, got a dog… but photography remains. I have even released The Symmetry Within banksias collection - my past self would be proud to know it was the first proper body of work executed as a project. Pity I haven’t documented it in a blog or even in a visual diary - just some notes in my little notebook. Anyway, it’s time for a new collection, and this time it is going to be my favourite from Western Australia - Eucalyptus rhodantha, or Rose Mallee.

Here’s how my Lightroom screen is looking right now!

Out of nearly 80 candidates, the first three rows made it. That’s 33 images, which means there will be another cut. I am unsure yet how many I am going to release, so let’s wait and see!

What didn’t make it:

  • Anything with busy or inconsistent backgrounds

  • Harsh lighting or colour cast I can’t easily fix

  • Repeats or weaker versions of similar compositions

  • Shots that feel like “documenting,” not “collecting”

(and yes, I know there are still some of those in the final 33!)

Next step: clean edits and some quiet time with each image to see which ones belong together.

I’ll share the finalists soon!
